Early Life and Background
Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro was born on February 5, 1985, in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal. His father, José Dinis Aveiro, worked as a kit manager at a local football club, Andorinha. Ronaldo middle name was inspired by Ronald Reagan, his father favorite actor and the sitting U.S. president at the time of his birth.
At the age of 15 Ronaldo faced a serious health challenge when doctors diagnosed him with a heart condition that required surgery. Fortunately the operation was successful, and he returned to football within a short time. He began his youth career at Nacional Madeira before joining Sporting Clube de Portugal where his talent quickly stood out. In 2002 he made his debut for Sporting senior team.
