The Federation Internationale Football Association (FIFA) has unveiled the full match schedule for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The announcement was made during a grand ceremony in Washington D.C., attended by FIFA President Gianni Infantino and football icons Ronaldo (Brazil), Francesco Totti, Hristo Stoichkov, and Alexi Lalas.
A Historic Edition Featuring 48 Teams
For the first time in FIFA history the World Cup will feature 48 competing nations. This expanded format will introduce more matches, stronger competition, and a wider global representation.
Opening Match Mexico vs South Africa
The tournament kicks off on 11 June at 1 PM (local time) in Mexico City where Mexico will face South Africa in the opening fixture of Group A. Interestingly this match mirrors the opening game of the 2010 World Cup. Adding to the nostalgia the head coaches Mexico Javier Aguirre and South Africa Hugo Broos return to the same venue for the first time since the 1986 World Cup.

Canada Opening Match in Toronto
On 12 June Canada will play its opening match in Toronto at 3 PM local time. The Canadian side will face the winner of the European playoff featuring Italy, Northern Ireland, Wales, or Bosnia.
USA vs Paraguay in Los Angeles
Later on the same day, 12 June the United States will take on Paraguay in Los Angeles at 6 PM local time drawing strong attention from home fans.
