Perth Scorchers defeated Sydney Sixers by 48 runs in a dominant display at Optus Stadium, earning a spot in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2026 final. The Scorchers faced early setbacks but managed to post a defendable total and bowled out the Sixers comprehensively.
Scorchers Batting Resilience
Batting first, the Scorchers struggled to gain momentum, finishing at 147-9 in 20 overs. They lost star batter Mitchell Marsh for just five runs in the opening over, with Josh Starc claiming the key wicket.
However, Finn Allen and Aaron Hardie stabilized the innings, adding crucial runs and helping the team surpass the 50 run mark. Allen aggressive innings of 49 off 30 balls featured two fours and four sixes before Starc dismissed him.
The middle order faltered as Josh Inglis and Cooper Connolly fell cheaply for two and eight, dismissed by Joel Davies and Ben Manenti respectively. Captain Ashton Turner contributed a quick 29 off 21 balls, including three fours and two sixes, while Jhye Richardson added 20 runs off 18 balls. The remaining batters failed to make a significant impact.
For the Sixers, Mitchell Starc, Jack Edwards, and Ben Dwarshuis claimed two wickets each, while Joel Davies and Ben Manenti picked up one wicket apiece.
Sixers Batting Collapse
Chasing 148, the Sydney Sixers were bowled out for just 99 in 15 overs, struggling from the start. Opener Babar Azam was dismissed for a second ball duck in the first over, stumped by Josh Inglis off Cooper Connolly bowling.
The Sixers lost further wickets in the fourth over as Mahli Beardman dismissed Josh Philippe for 13 and captain Moises Henriques for two, leaving them reeling at 23-3. Lachlan Shaw offered some resistance with 15 off 13 balls, including a six, while late contributions from Ben Manenti (11) and Ben Dwarshuis (10) proved insufficient.
Scorchers Bowling Masterclass
Mahli Beardman led the bowling charge for the Scorchers with figures of 3/20 in three overs, supported by Cooper Connolly and David Payne, who took two wickets each. Aaron Hardie and Jhye Richardson also chipped in with one wicket apiece, ensuring the Sixers never recovered.
