Nepal Announce Squad for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has officially named a 15 member squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8.

Nepal will compete among 20 international teams in the global event and are hoping to improve on their previous performance after their early exit in 2024.

Leadership and Team Structure

Rohit Paudel Named Captain

Experienced batting all rounder Rohit Paudel has been appointed as captain of the Nepal national team for the tournament. He will be supported by vice captain Dipendra Singh Airee, another dependable all rounder who plays a key role in both departments.

Bowling Attack Overview

Spin Department

Nepal spin attack will be led by star leg spinner Sandeep Lamichhane, with strong support from left arm spinner Lalit Rajbanshi. Additional spin options will be provided by Dipendra Singh Airee and Basir Ahamad, giving the team flexibility in different match conditions.

Pace Bowling Unit

The fast bowling responsibilities will be shared by Sompal Kami and Karan KC, who will lead the pace department. They will be backed by Nandan Yadav and Sher Malla, offering depth and variation in the seam attack.

Nepal batting lineup is built around aggressive opener Kushal Bhurtel, with support from Aasif Sheikh, Sundeep Jora, Lokesh Bam, and Nandan Yadav, providing stability and firepower throughout the innings.

The squad features several multi skilled players, including Gulshan Jha, Aarif Sheikh, and Sompal Kami, alongside captain Paudel and vice captain Airee, ensuring balance between batting and bowling.

Group Stage Fixtures

Nepal have been placed in Group C and will begin their T20 World Cup journey against two time champions England on February 8 at Mumbai Wankhede Stadium.

They will play all their group matches at the same venue:

• February 8 – vs England
• February 12 – vs Italy
• February 15 – vs West Indies
• February 17 – vs Bangladesh

Nepal World Cup Journey So Far

The 2026 tournament will mark Nepal second appearance in a Men’s T20 World Cup. Their first participation came in 2024, co hosted by the West Indies and the USA, where they exited at the group stage after failing to register a win.

This time, Nepal are aiming for a stronger showing on the world stage.
