Pakistan produced a strong response on the second day of the first Test against West Indies, reaching 199 for 3 at stumps after dismissing the hosts for 311 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, Trinidad.
The visitors ended the day 112 runs behind West Indies, but Pakistan gained significant momentum through a dominant opening partnership between Imam-ul-Haq and Shan Masood. Masood remained unbeaten on 88, leaving Pakistan in a strong position to reduce the deficit further on the third morning.
Pakistan Recover After Early Setbacks
Pakistan innings began with some pressure after the team lost an early wicket. However, Imam-ul-Haq and Shan Masood quickly settled into the conditions and shifted the momentum in Pakistan favour.
The pair added 155 runs for the second wicket, giving Pakistan the stability it needed after West Indies had posted a competitive first innings total. Imam eventually fell for a well made 63, but his partnership with Masood laid the foundation for Pakistan strong finish.
Shan Masood Anchors Pakistan Reply
Shan Masood was the standout performer with the bat. The left hander reached his half century from 46 balls and continued to control the innings as the day progressed.
Although Pakistan lost captain Babar Azam for 23, Masood remained at the crease until the close of play. He finished unbeaten on 88, with Salman Ali Agha yet to open his account when bad light brought the day play to an end.
Mohammad Ali Leads Pakistan Bowling Attack
Earlier in the day, West Indies resumed their first innings at 194 for 3. Pakistan bowlers made the most of the opportunity and gradually dismantled the home side batting lineup.
Mohammad Ali delivered the best figures for Pakistan, taking 4 wickets for 50 runs. Veteran seamer Mohammad Abbas also played a crucial role with three wickets, while Khurram Shahzad claimed two and Aamir Jamal added one.
Shai Hope and Kavem Hodge Miss Centuries
West Indies had looked well placed after strong contributions from Shai Hope and Kavem Hodge.
Hope scored 92, while Hodge made 84. Both batsmen played important innings, but neither could convert a strong start into a century. Once the partnership and middle order resistance ended, West Indies lost wickets regularly and were eventually dismissed for 311.
