Australia has officially released its preliminary squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026, bringing back key players Pat Cummins, Cameron Green, and Cooper Connolly.
The announcement was made by Cricket Australia chief selector George Bailey, who explained the reasoning behind the squad selection and future plans.
Return of Key Players Strengthens Squad
Pat Cummins, Cameron Green and Cooper Connolly Back
George Bailey confirmed that Cummins, Green, and Connolly were not part of the recent series against India but have now been included again as part of the World Cup preparations.
Their return adds depth and experience to Australia lineup, especially in fast bowling and all rounder roles, which are crucial in T20 cricket.
Fitness Update and Squad Flexibility
Cummins, Hazlewood and Tim David Near Full Recovery
Bailey stated that Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Tim David are progressing well in their recovery from injuries.
He added that the management is confident all three players will be fit and available before the start of the World Cup.
Squad May Change Before Tournament
Bailey also clarified that this is only a preliminary squad. Adjustments may be made during the preparation period depending on player fitness, form, and team requirements.
Pakistan Series Squad to Be Announced Separately
The chief selector further mentioned that Australia squad for the three match T20 series against Pakistan will be announced at a later date.
This allows the selectors to manage workloads and give opportunities to other players if needed.
